It is one of the most important and very effective purification process in Yoga’ It has a great curative value for all throat.and nasal diseases. It has been imitated from the natural act of passing water through the trunk, by an elephant. In the beginning it might prove a little difficult, but  once it is mastered, in has a soothing effect on the mind and thus produces in an individual a sensation of peace’ happiness and contentment.

Procedure-To start with a mouthful of saline warm .water is taken. The tongue is inverted to touch the palate and block the flow of water in the throat. The chin is lowered

to touch the chest (Jalandher Bandh or chin lock) The mouth is squeezed by pulling the lips inward and at the same time the inhaled breath is let out. This forces the liquid in the

mouth to escape through the nostrils in a very regulated way. For better effects milk may be substituted for saline water. It can be performed after sitting on the toes.

Benefits– lt is mainly applied as a process for rejuvenation of ‘Nervous System . The nostrils and the allied nerves get perfectly cleaned. It ensures proper and smooth

functioning of the three subtle nerves i.e  Ida, Pingla and sushumma and that in due course of time helps in the awakening of Kundalini (Serpentine Power).

If practised continuously for a week the face starts glowing with a radiance. It looks better and the wrinkles also start disappearing.

The grey hair change colour in due course of time and turn black.

It effects eye-sight considerably. It has been observed that when practised regularly, the eyesight improves appreciably and even the spects get removed.

As it affects the vocal cords, the voice becomes sweet and melodious.

It improves the memory as a result of toning of brain nerves.
